Organization Background
On July 1 1997, Hong Kong was officially turned over to China after a reign of over 150 years by the British Government. Mr. Tung Chee-Hwa, a prominent public figure and successful business executive, assumed the elected role of Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China.
Shortly after assuming the leadership of Hong Kong, Mr. Tung set forth a bold vision to transform Hong Kong from its traditional finance, transportation and real estate-based economy to one that is knowledge-driven and high technology-intensive. Mr. Tung and his technology advisory counsels recognized that in order to fulfill this mission, it is of utmost importance to forge a tight relationship and collaboration between the high tech communities in Hong Kong and in Silicon Valley.
Thus a new organization, designating a cyber-oriented Hong Kong-Silicon Valley High Tech Community was founded in the pursuit of this vision , aptly named HongKong-SV.com.

Our Charter
HongKong-SV.com, a non-profit organization based in Silicon Valley, California, was founded in 1999 by several prominent high tech executives in Silicon Valley, all Hong Kong expatriates, with sponsorship from the Hong Kong government, to provide a focused forum for high tech professionals interested in business development and networking opportunities between Silicon Valley and Hong Kong.
HongKong-SV.com is a tax-exempt organization operating under the direction of a six (6) member Board of Directors who set policies and oversee the development of programs and events for the benefit of its members while nurturing continued organizational growth in scope and in stature.
From its inception, the organization has received official endorsement and full support from Hong Kong's nascent information technology community, including high level government officials, worldclass business industrialists and high tech executives in Hong Kong.
The charter of HongKong-SV.com is twofold:
- To promote awareness of high tech development activities and business opportunities in Silicon Valley and Hong Kong for the advancements of both communities;
- To stimulate and facilitate high tech business collaboration and networking opportunities between the two communities.
Our organization sponsors several topical programs and events each year, with an emphasis on the current trends and activities in high technology business, education and economic developments in Silicon Valley and in Hong Kong, covering all aspects of information technologies, telecommunications, semiconductors and biotechnology.

Our Uniqueness
HongKong-SV.com differs from other high tech non-profit organizations in the following areas:
- It is the ONLY organization, in Silicon Valley and in Hong Kong, that is solely dedicated towards developing a close link between the Silicon Valley high tech community with that in Hong Kong;
- It is the ONLY membership-funded organization endorsed by well-known high tech influencers in Hong Kong, from top government officials and worldclass business industrialists to high tech business executives;
- A major organizational objective is to develop a Virtual Business Liaison Portal, accessible ONLY to our members, that facilitates on-line inquiries, provide relevant "how to" information and helpful referrals and networking links for those members who wish to receive advice and guidance with regard to conducting high tech business in Silicon Valley and in Hong Kong.
